THINGS TO SEE AND DO...
Grand Manan - the Queen of the Fundy Isles - is a remarkable refuge from the maelstrom of mainland life. This beautiful island is large enough to be constantly fascinating - small enough to have a strong sense of identity and community. Down the east side is a string of picturesque fishing villages with safe harbours tucked behind a splatter of islets. The west side is a wall of rock plunging precipitously down to the sea. In between are spruce forests and upland heaths, crossed by a network of hiking trails.

Nature lovers have recognized Grand Manan as one of the best places on the Eastern Seaboard for a holiday, since Audubon came here more than 150 years ago. The bird life is especially profuse with clouds of seabirds including the colourful, comical Puffin, as well as a host of shorebirds and waterfowl. Close to 300 species have been recorded on the island. Seals can be seen pulling out on rocky ledges and Harbour Porpoises, along with the occasional Dolphin, are frequently viewed from the ferry. The widespread interest in Whale watching can be indulged on Grand Manan, especially in late summer when the near-extinct Northern Right Whales, along with Humpbacks, Minkes and the gigantic Finback, enter the Bay of Fundy.
